									<p data-start="253" data-end="348">There it is. The most feared question in every interview:<br data-start="310" data-end="313" /><strong data-start="313" data-end="346">“So… tell me about yourself.”</strong></p>
<p data-start="350" data-end="496">Suddenly your brain goes blank, your palms sweat, and you consider saying something tragic like <em data-start="446" data-end="494">“Well, I love cats and Netflix documentaries…”</em></p>
<p data-start="498" data-end="755">Here’s the thing: recruiters don’t ask this to torture you (well, most don’t). They want a quick, confident snapshot of who you are — not your entire life story. The problem? Most people either ramble, repeat their CV word-for-word, or sound like a robot.</p>
<p data-start="757" data-end="898">Good news: you don’t have to. Here’s how to nail this opener, keep it under 90 seconds, and sound like a person they actually want to hire.</p>
<h3 data-start="905" data-end="936"><strong>Why This Question Matters</strong></h3>
<p data-start="937" data-end="1045">Think of it like the <strong data-start="958" data-end="980">trailer of a movie</strong>. If the trailer is boring, you’re not watching the whole film.</p>
<p data-start="1047" data-end="1100">Recruiters use this question to check three things:</p>
<ol data-start="1101" data-end="1244">
<li data-start="1101" data-end="1134">
<p data-start="1104" data-end="1134">Can you communicate clearly?</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1135" data-end="1188">
<p data-start="1138" data-end="1188">Do you understand what’s relevant for this role?</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1189" data-end="1244">
<p data-start="1192" data-end="1244">Do you sound like someone they’d want on the team?</p>
</li>
</ol>
<p data-start="1246" data-end="1359">Mess it up, and you’re fighting uphill. Nail it, and you’ve already set the tone for the rest of the interview.</p>
<h3 data-start="1366" data-end="1408"><strong>The Formula: Past → Present → Future</strong></h3>
<p data-start="1409" data-end="1459">Here’s the easiest way to structure your answer:</p>
<ul data-start="1461" data-end="1632">
<li data-start="1461" data-end="1506">
<p data-start="1463" data-end="1506"><strong data-start="1463" data-end="1472">Past:</strong> A quick nod to your background.</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1507" data-end="1568">
<p data-start="1509" data-end="1568"><strong data-start="1509" data-end="1521">Present:</strong> What you’re doing now and why it’s relevant.</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1569" data-end="1632">
<p data-start="1571" data-end="1632"><strong data-start="1571" data-end="1582">Future:</strong> Where you’re headed and how this role connects.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p data-start="1634" data-end="1701">All in under 90 seconds. Think highlight reel, not autobiography.</p>
<h4 data-start="1733" data-end="1786"><strong data-start="1738" data-end="1784">1. The First-Jobber (Student / Fresh Grad)</strong></h4>
<p data-start="1787" data-end="2177">“Sure! I just graduated with a degree in Marketing, where I focused on digital campaigns and even ran a student project that boosted local business sales by 20%. Right now, I’m interning at a small agency where I’ve learned the ropes of managing social media ads. I’m excited about this role because it’s a chance to apply those skills on a bigger scale and keep growing in the industry.”</p>
<p data-start="2179" data-end="2234">✅ Confident. ✅ Relevant. ✅ Doesn’t mention their cat.</p>
<h4 data-start="2241" data-end="2274"><strong>2. The Career Switcher</strong></h4>
<p data-start="2275" data-end="2669">“Absolutely. I actually started my career in hospitality, where I built strong skills in customer service and managing fast-paced situations. Over the past year, I’ve been retraining in UX design, taking courses and freelancing on small projects. Now I’m ready to bring that service-focused mindset into product design, and this role feels like the perfect bridge between my past and future.”</p>
<p data-start="2671" data-end="2719">✅ Shows growth + ✅ transferable skills, ✅ not panic.</p>
<h4 data-start="2726" data-end="2778"><strong>3. The Climber (Experienced Professional)</strong></h4>
<p data-start="2779" data-end="3177">“Of course. I’ve spent the last 6 years in sales, starting as a junior rep and working up to managing a small team. Along the way, I’ve consistently hit targets and even led a project that opened two new markets. Right now, I’m looking for a role where I can take those leadership skills further, and your company’s focus on international growth is exactly the kind of challenge I’m looking for.”</p>
<p data-start="3179" data-end="3217">✅ Strong, ✅ ambitious, but ✅ not arrogant.</p>
<h4 data-start="3224" data-end="3275"><strong>4. The Over-Sharer (Bad Example → Fixed)</strong></h4>
<p data-start="3276" data-end="3358">❌ “Well, I was born in 1994, I have three dogs, and last year I hiked the Alps…”</p>
<p data-start="3360" data-end="3391">🚫 Recruiter brain: <em data-start="3380" data-end="3389">“Next.”</em></p>
<p data-start="3393" data-end="3693">✅ Fixed: “I’ve been working in project coordination for 3 years, focusing on streamlining processes. I’m especially proud of a system I built that cut turnaround times by 25%. I’m excited about this role because it combines that operational focus with the chance to collaborate on bigger projects.”</p>
<h3 data-start="3700" data-end="3721">Do’s and Don’ts</h3>
<p data-start="3723" data-end="3853">✅ Do keep it under 90 seconds.<br data-start="3753" data-end="3756" />✅ Do sprinkle in one personal touch (but keep it light).<br data-start="3812" data-end="3815" />✅ Do connect your story to the role.</p>
<p data-start="3855" data-end="3999">❌ Don’t repeat your CV line by line.<br data-start="3891" data-end="3894" />❌ Don’t ramble into irrelevant hobbies.<br data-start="3933" data-end="3936" />❌ Don’t undersell yourself (“I’m not sure, I guess I just…”).</p>
<h3 data-start="4006" data-end="4022"><strong>Mini Recap</strong></h3>
<p data-start="4023" data-end="4186">Think of “Tell me about yourself” as your elevator pitch. Short, sharp, and a little bit memorable. Start strong, and the rest of the interview feels 10x easier.</p>
<p data-start="4217" data-end="4435">Want to make sure you don’t crash halfway through the interview? 🚨</p>
<p data-start="4217" data-end="4435">Read our next post: <strong data-start="4307" data-end="4365">[“Job Interview Red Flags: What You Should Never Say”]</strong>.<br data-start="4366" data-end="4369" />Because sometimes it’s not what you say, but what you shouldn’t.</p>								</div>

									<p data-start="73" data-end="282">Recruiters spend less time on your CV than you do choosing a Netflix show. On average? <strong data-start="160" data-end="174">7 seconds.</strong> That’s barely enough to read your name before deciding if you’re worth a callback — or a hard swipe left.</p><p data-start="284" data-end="421">The truth is, most CVs don’t get rejected because the person isn’t qualified. They get rejected because the CV itself screams <em data-start="410" data-end="419">“next!”</em></p><p data-start="423" data-end="661">If you’re tired of sending applications into the void (aka Ghosted City), it’s time to fix the mistakes that make recruiters run. Here are <strong data-start="562" data-end="659">5 CV fails that instantly kill your chances — and how to flip them into swipe-right material.</strong></p><h3 data-start="205" data-end="237"><strong data-start="209" data-end="235">1. The Wall of Text CV</strong></h3><p data-start="238" data-end="589">Looks more like a novel than a resumé. Recruiters aren’t reading <em data-start="303" data-end="339">“Chapter 7: My Summer Internship.”</em><br data-start="339" data-end="342" /><strong data-start="342" data-end="359">Why it’s bad:</strong> A dense CV screams <em data-start="379" data-end="392">“time sink”</em> and makes important info invisible.<br data-start="428" data-end="431" /><strong data-start="431" data-end="442">Fix it:</strong> Keep it clean. Use bullet points, clear headings, and focus on achievements (“Increased sales by 30%”) not job duties (“Responsible for sales”).</p><h3 data-start="596" data-end="626"><strong data-start="600" data-end="624">2. Buzzword Overload</strong></h3><p data-start="627" data-end="948">“Hardworking, passionate, detail-oriented, team player.” Blah blah blah. Recruiters have seen it 1,000 times today.<br data-start="742" data-end="745" /><strong data-start="745" data-end="762">Why it’s bad:</strong> It tells them <em data-start="777" data-end="786">nothing</em> about what you’ve actually done.<br data-start="819" data-end="822" /><strong data-start="822" data-end="833">Fix it:</strong> Replace fluff with proof. Instead of “detail-oriented,” show them: “Reduced data errors by 25% with new system.”</p><h3 data-start="955" data-end="987"><strong data-start="959" data-end="985">3. Ghosts of Jobs Past</strong></h3><p data-start="988" data-end="1277">That part-time gig from 2009 where you folded jeans at the mall? Yeah, it doesn’t belong.<br data-start="1077" data-end="1080" /><strong data-start="1080" data-end="1097">Why it’s bad:</strong> Irrelevant or outdated roles clutter your story and make you look unfocused.<br data-start="1174" data-end="1177" /><strong data-start="1177" data-end="1188">Fix it:</strong> Trim the fat. Only list recent and relevant roles that add weight to your application.</p><h3 data-start="1284" data-end="1312"><strong data-start="1288" data-end="1310">4. Design Disaster</strong></h3><p data-start="1313" data-end="1653">Comic Sans font. Rainbow colors. Tables that break when uploaded. Recruiters are not graphic designers, and they don’t want to solve your formatting puzzle.<br data-start="1469" data-end="1472" /><strong data-start="1472" data-end="1489">Why it’s bad:</strong> Ugly, cluttered CVs go straight to the trash.<br data-start="1535" data-end="1538" /><strong data-start="1538" data-end="1549">Fix it:</strong> Stick to simple, professional fonts (Arial, Calibri). One color max. Save as PDF so it doesn’t break.</p><h3 data-start="1660" data-end="1684"><strong data-start="1664" data-end="1682">5. ATS Suicide</strong></h3><p data-start="1685" data-end="2013">Applicant Tracking Systems (aka the robots) can’t read text hidden in images, weird templates, or fancy icons.<br data-start="1795" data-end="1798" /><strong data-start="1798" data-end="1815">Why it’s bad:</strong> If the bot can’t read your CV, a recruiter will never even see it.<br data-start="1882" data-end="1885" /><strong data-start="1885" data-end="1896">Fix it:</strong> Use standard formatting, avoid text boxes, and include keywords from the job posting. Robots first, humans second.</p><h3 data-start="2020" data-end="2039"><strong>✅ Quick Recap</strong></h3><p data-start="2040" data-end="2231">Your CV is like a dating profile: too long, too fake, too outdated, too messy, or unreadable? <strong data-start="2134" data-end="2149">Swipe left.</strong> Keep it short, sharp, and tailored, and you’ll land in the “match” pile faster.</p><p data-start="2040" data-end="2231"><b>Ready to turn your CV into swipe-right material? 🚀<br data-start="191" data-end="194" /></b>Don’t stop here — check out our next post: <strong data-start="237" data-end="299">[“ATS Explained Like You’re 5: How to Beat Resume Robots”]</strong>.<br data-start="300" data-end="303" />Because before you impress the recruiter, you’ve got to charm the robot. 🤖✨</p> </div>
